Triglycerides – How to Reduce your Blood Fat

Lower Triglycerides and Cholesterol

Triglycerides and cholesterol combined together are the sources of fat in the blood stream. Cholesterol is necessary for building strong cells whereas triglycerides are required for energy. In case both triglycerides and cholesterol remain high for prolonged periods trouble arises.

High Cholesterol results in clogged arteries. The action of high triglycerides on the heart is not well defined. High triglycerides are often associated with low levels of HDL cholesterol and indicate a problem that is causing you to carry fat particles in the blood that do cause vascular (heart) disease.

The triglycerides can be controlled in the same ways as cholesterol.
Some important methods to control your cholesterol and triglycerides are:

(a) Reduce the fat in your diet. Less than 30% of your diet should be fat based. Try and reduce the fat intake gradually.

(b) Substitute Complex Carbohydrates for fats whereas possible. Try and have a high carbohydrates and low fat combination. Rice, potatoes, pasta salads are good examples of such a diet.

(c) Consume less pure sugar based foods such as candy.

(d) Reduce your weight to your ideal weight gradually. If you are not over weight you can more easily reach your target of a balanced triglycerides and cholesterol level.

(e) Burn the excess fat by exercising. Whatever the level of fat and fitness, exercising will always reduce triglycerides and fat from your body.

(f) Try and void Alcohol. The less alcohol you drink the better it is for your triglyceride count.

(g) Have a diet containing fish. Consuming fish is also very good for reducing triglycerides. The health benefits of omega-3 fatty acids present in fish / fish oil is well known and they are excellent for restoring the triglycerides / cholesterol balance in the body.
