What is Berylliosis?
Beryllium is a strong but a light and stable metal. It is often used in ship building.
The toxic dust of Beryllium can cause a fatal lung disease called Berylliosis. When there is a prolonged
exposure to Beryllium dust, an allergic reaction associated with the body's immunity system,causes this disease.
Who is at risk of developing Berylliosis?
Construction workers in environments where there is a large quantity of toxic dust of Beryllium, such as ship building factories,
are at an increased risk of developing Berylliosis, a dangerous and often incurable lung disease.
Symptoms of Berylliosis :
Unexplained Fatigue/Tiredness, breathing difficulty, cough & chest pain, weight loss.
Rashes on the body on exposure to beryllium dust.
These are very common symptoms and may not indicate Berylliosis.
