Supply Chain - Definition

A customer purchases a product from a retailer. The retailer obtains the product from the distributor. The distributor receives the product from the manufacturer. The manufacturer gets his raw material to produce the product from one or more suppliers.

These stages involved in delivering the product to the customer when connected together form the supply chain.

There is a flow of products, information, and funds between the stages of the supply chain.

A good supply chain aims to increase the supply chain profit. Supply Chain profit is the difference between the price of the product paid by the customer and the cost incurred by the supply chain in producing the product.
